Elderly bowel ischemia

F80. Has been on dialysis for at least 6 years. Pacemaker and valve replacement about a year ago. Diabetes, Charcot feet, vision loss due to diabetes. Dual knee replacements. Overall health is not great. Now hospitalized with bowel ischemia. As she described it, part of her bowel is dead. Surgery will happen tomorrow, I think.

I’m out of state and my mom has been admitted. Honestly, this not surprising and I’m trying to be realistic with my expectations. She has a DNR. Nurse told me that she is stable now but the real danger is during the surgery and after.

What should my expectations be? Is she going to die? What will her quality of life be? She lives alone-will she ever be able to live at home alone again? I know that nobody knows…but what do you think? Thank you for any responses.
