The NC DMV is a joke

Note to mods, this is specifically the North Carolina DMV. It is absolutely on topic of North Carolina. Yes, last time I didn't specify that it was the NC DMV because I assumed it was obvious since I was posting in the North Carolina sub.

When I renewed my license last time it was during covid so I did it online, but that means it's not a "Real ID". The deadline for Real ID is in May. There are no appointments available anywhere in the state before then unless you constantly refresh the site and are willing to drive hundreds of miles for a 7:30 appointment.

I'm going to need a passport to travel domestically.
